Every year, summer becomes more than just a period of rest and reflection. It is also a time when people connect with one another in a different way.
During the holiday season, calendars become less important and conversations are given the space they often do not receive throughout the rest of the year. You meet people on a terrace, during a walk, by the pool, or simply through a chance encounter. What makes these conversations so valuable is that they happen naturally and without pressure, often focusing on who we are as people: our backgrounds, ambitions, families, dreams, and sometimes even our concerns.
Recently, I found myself talking with a Portuguese gentleman on a terrace who wondered whether the average Portuguese citizen is exposed to too much negative news. With so many news channels available, from CNN Portugal to local broadcasters, he felt that some media outlets paint an overly pessimistic picture of the country, while in reality many positive things are happening across Portugal every day.
Perhaps that is exactly why I value these conversations so much. They remind us that trust always starts with getting to know each other as people, understanding different perspectives, and taking the time to genuinely listen.
In a world where AI, digital transformation, and automation continue to reshape the way we work, one thing remains unchanged: people do business with people. Technology can accelerate processes, improve efficiency, and provide valuable insights, but it will never replace the human connection that is required to build long-term partnerships.
When I look back at some of the most successful and rewarding relationships I have built throughout my career, I can clearly identify a common thread. None of those relationships started with a proposal, a tender, or a contract. Almost all of them began with a conversation or a personal introduction. A conversation where nobody was trying to sell something. A conversation driven by genuine curiosity and mutual respect. A conversation where both sides took the time to understand what mattered to the other person. Trust came first, and business followed naturally as a result.
I still see this every day at Luza Tecnologia Portugal. Many of our new customers come through existing relationships, trusted partners, or consultants who share their experiences working with us. Not because we are necessarily the cheapest provider in the market, but because people prefer working with organizations that are predictable, transparent, and consistent in the way they operate.
That, in my opinion, is where the real difference is made. Not through impressive presentations or polished sales pitches, but through consistently delivering on your commitments. Being available when projects come under pressure. Communicating openly when things do not go according to plan. And continuing to invest in relationships, even when there is no immediate commercial opportunity attached to them.
The same principle applies within organizations. A people-first culture is not created by words on a website or statements in a company presentation. It is built through everyday actions and behaviors. As leaders, we can only expect trust when we are prepared to give it first. We can only ask for transparency when we communicate openly ourselves. And we can only expect ownership when people genuinely feel empowered to take responsibility and make decisions.
At Luza, we support Microsoft partners across Europe with their growth, delivery capacity, and talent challenges. Of course, we provide highly skilled Microsoft professionals from Portugal, but what we are really trying to build are long-term partnerships based on trust and shared success. We want to understand where our partners want to go, the challenges they face today, and how we can continue to add value as their business evolves.
As summer gradually gives way to the second half of the year, perhaps this is the perfect moment to reconnect. Not necessarily to discuss a project, a contract, or a business opportunity, but to exchange ideas about the challenges and opportunities currently shaping the Microsoft ecosystem.
The best partnerships often begin much more simply than we think. They start with a conversation.
Are you a Microsoft partner looking to discuss growth, delivery capacity, Azure, Data & AI, or software development? If so, I would be delighted to connect. No sales presentation. No obligations. Just an open conversation between professionals who believe in long-term relationships, transparency, mutual respect, and creating value together.
Because before I do business with a company, I always want to know the person behind it first.
